Dietla Square is a perfectly created spa square, which is also the center of the urban layout developed by Józef Szalay. It was created in the 19th century after the Szczawny Potok riverbed was filled in. After World War II, this place served as the Market Square. The current name is associated with the obelisk of Józef Dietl, a balneologist, professor and rector of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Szalay's mentor and friend, unveiled in 1865 on the initiative of Szalay. In the center of the square there is a fountain with a bronze sculpture "Woman with a Jug". There are impressive buildings around the square, such as: Dom nad Zdrojami, Swiss Górna villa, Pałac or Dutchwoman villa. It is a beautiful and peaceful place where you can enjoy delicious ice cream or coffee in the nearby restaurants and cafes.
