The Krakow Zoological Garden is located in a beautiful and quiet area, in the Wolski Forest, in the Bielańsko-Tyniecki Landscape Park. It is a medium-sized garden, in which about 1,400 animals are exhibited, representing about 270 different species, of which over 100 are endangered species. The most valuable and interesting ones include the Rothschild giraffe, the Indian elephant, the ruffed lemur, the addaks antelope and the chimpanzee.
The garden was opened in 1929 and had just over 200 animals, most of them from the native lands. The most exotic animals there were monkeys back then. During the Second World War, many animals were taken to the German Gardens. The story of the 6 bisons that were taken from here to the Berlin Zoo is sad. They died during the bombing of the facility. The garden has been constantly developed since the post-war years.
In the Krakow Zoo, you can walk easily, even all day long. A special infrastructure has been prepared for visitors - shelters, benches, toilets, as well as eating places. The trip can be extended with a walk along the paths of the beautiful Wolski Forest. There are also special lectures, biology lessons, talks about animal protection and special educational programs for school groups.
