Homole Gorge is another must-see place in Szczawnica. It is located in the Little Pieniny Mountains, outside the Pieniny National Park, but it is a really picturesque corner of the region. The nature reserve includes the Homole rock gorge, Czajakowa Skała and the side part of the Koniowski Stream valley. The gorge itself is V-shaped and very deeply indented, its steep walls are covered with white and red limestone and can reach up to 120 m. The Kamionka stream flows along the bottom of the gorge, creating picturesque cascades. The nature reserve protects the landscape values of the ravine, but also its fauna and flora. Here you can see interesting lichens and animals such as kestrel, eagle owl and spotted lizard.
You can go through the gorge by following the green trail that starts at the parking lot in Jaworki. The crossing will take about 20 minutes (1.3 km), the range of the reserve ends near the upper Homole cable car station - a good vantage point and a great place to rest. It is worth following the green trail to reach the scenic clearing under Wysoka and to Wysoka itself - the highest peak of the Pieniny Mountains. From the top, you can go down the blue trail to Szczawnica (going west) or go west along the state border to the Rozdziela Pass, and from there along the yellow trail through the Biała Woda Reserve to Jaworki.
